Operations related matters are G3’s responsibility

G3 Branch

G3 is organised in 5 sections in peacetime.

G3 Plans

G3 Plans is the Section responsible for the co-ordination of all operational short-term planning and all operational guidelines, manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). It includes areas such as close, deep and rear operations, special operations, psychological operations (PSYOPS) and Information Operations (INFO OPS).
The G3 Branch’s brains are tasked with foreseeing operations in the future and thinking over all possible ways of action within the very strict frame of order writing.
G3 has in peacetime a PSYOPS and an INFO OPS cell, that during crisis times are able to conduct psychological operations and Information Operations respectively.
The G3 Plans section manages the Decision-Making Process (DMP) and the Corps Battle Rhythm. The co-operation, co-ordination and liaison with the higher echelon, LNOs to the HQ EC, Air and Naval Component are conducted within G3 Plans.

G3 Training and Exercises

The Section Training and Exercises is responsible to produce and synchronize a co-ordinated training and exercise plan in order to facilitate the successful training preparation of all members and elements of HQ EC for the missions of the Eurocorps. The execution of the training and exercise plan is to be coordinated and supervised by the section, as well as the budget for the main exercises.
The requirements for training areas, the annual international course attendance for HQ members and the contact to the CAX centres of EC Nations and NATO are driven by the section.
During exercises and in missions the section contributes to the DISTAFF or CP manning.

G3 Operations

The primary functions of G3 Operations are the maintenance and promulgation of a common operating picture, both within the headquarters and externally, and the conduct of the current battle.

Therefore Ops Section is responsible for the preparation and activation of the Operations Centre (OPSCEN) of the Advanced Command Post (NRF) or the Main Command Post (HRF). Ops Section is also responsible for the establishment of EC Home Base Ops Centre prior to an EC deployment. Additionally Ops Section is in charge for the development of a permanent HQ alert system to ensure the operational readiness. The Military Police Staff Officer and Force Protection Officer is responsible as the single specialist for the advise of the COS and staff in Military Police and Force Protection concerns. The section is divided into the Alert & Mobilization cell, Home Base Ops Centre cell, OPSCEN cell and Military Police & Force Protection cell.

G3 Fire Support Co-Ordination Centre

The FS Section within the G3 branch is on the one hand responsible for the co-ordination and integration of land, air and maritime fires, to support the manoeuvre.

On the other hand FSCC is responsible for the co-ordination, integration and synchronisation of lethal and non-lethal joint fires in support of the Commander’s plan (deep, close and rear operations). It is also responsible for the Corps’s joint targeting. The section is organised in the following sub-cells: Command, Operations, Plans and Targeting.

G3 Air

G3 Air section acts as the interface between the Corps and its subordinate helicopter and air defence formations, which provide the EC with organic army aviation combat power, air maneuver and air defence. To ensure that all third dimension users can operate with maximum freedom, the Corps Airspace Management Element co-ordinates the use of airspace over the Corps with the Air Operations Co-ordination Centre for artillery unmanned air reconnaissance vehicles, helicopters and air defence systems.

Nato Response Force (NRF) preparation

Since NRF is a new concept within NATO's transformation, it needs a lot of exercises to become fully operational. Training, exercises and operations are a G3 responsability.
