Engineer Branch
The Engineer Branch provides staff advice and planning assistance in support of the COMEC mission in all aspects of military engineering including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), mines and engineer intelligence, Infrastructure, NBC Defence and Environmental protection as well as Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) and Military Geographic (MilGeo) support.
The Engineer Branch is the coordinating entity for all assigned engineer units. It also advises the HQ Eurocorps on all the above-mentioned specialities.
The role of EC-subordinated engineer units is to provide mobility, counter-mobility, survivability and general engineer support, including infrastructure engineering and EOD.
The co-operation and interoperability of the subordinate engineer units is enhanced during multinational study days and exercises.
The NBC Defence and Environmental Protection Section provides advice to the staff on all matters concerning NBC/ROTA (Release Other Than Attack) defence and Environmental, Fire and Radiation protection. It is responsible to advise and supervise HQ EC and the subordinated units in training of NBC defence experts and to prepare training requirements.
The MilGeo Section provides geospatial support to HQ EC and subordinated units for planning purposes and for execution of exercises. In commitments a geospatial support element tailored to the mission reinforces EC. MilGeo provides the entire geospatial information including distribution of maps, geospatial advice and terrain assessment, availability of digital geospatial data, military geographic description, landscape analysis (slopes, wooden areas, natural obstacles, cross-country movement etc.), 3-dimensional visualization of the landscape for missions rehearsal and large format reproduction on demand tools.
The METOC Section provides meteorological, climatologic, oceanographic and astronomical information to the staff and subordinate units. This includes assessments of the weather impact on military operations and providing aircrews with meteorological forecasts.
