A new Commander for Eurocorps - Belgian General taking over

Strasbourg - On 23 September 2005, the Chiefs of Defence from Eurocorps’ framework nations will hand over the command of Eurocorps from French Lieutenant General Jean-Louis Py to the Belgian Lieutenant General Charles-Henri Delcour.

Lieutenant General Py, who has been the Commanding General of Eurocorps since September 2003, achieved a successful mission in Afghanistan, where from August 2004 until February 2005, the Headquarters Eurocorps formed under his command the core of the International Security Assistance Force ISAF-Headquarters and led the operations of up to 10,000 troops from 37 nations.

His future position will be the Commanding General of the French Land Forces Command (CFAT) in Lille.

The new Commanding General of Eurocorps, Lieutenant General Charles-Henri Delcour is the former Chief of Staff of Headquarters Eurocorps and filled the same position during Eurocorps’ ISAF mission.

The ceremony will be presided by the Belgian Chief of Defence General August Van Daele. He will be joined by the other Eurocorps framework nations’ Chief of Defence: Général d’armée Henri Bentégeat from France, General Wolfgang Schneiderhan from Germany, Colonel Nico Ries from Luxembourg and General de Ejército Félix Sanz Roldan from Spain.
