French medals for Eurocorps members at 63rd Victory Day celebration

Strasbourg (France), 8th May 2008.

Today was celebrated the 63rd Victory Day on the “Place de la République” in Strasbourg. Civil and military authorities – for HQ Eurocorps Lieutenant General Pedro PITARCH (Spain), Commanding General, and Major General Philippe SOMMAIRE (France), Deputy Commanding General – honoured this ceremony with their presence.

Followed by an investiture where Major General SOMMAIRE made Major General Fransisco PUENTES (Spain) and Brigadier General Walter SPINDLER (Germany) knights of the Legion of Honour (“Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur”). German Colonel SCHÖBINGER, Belgian Colonel MICHEL and Luxemburg Lieutenant Colonel ASSEL were made knights of the Order of Merit (“Chevalier de l’ordre du Mérite”)

At the end of the ceremony, in memory of the victims of the war, a wreaths was laid the war memorial.
