Francisco PUENTES ZAMORA

Major General Puentes Zamora was recently assigned Deputy Commander of the Eurocorps and has thus taken over command from General Löser on 23. September 2005. General Puentes Zamora, who well-knows the Eurocorps from an earlier assignment as Lieutenant Colonel in G6, speaks French and English fluently. He is married, has a daughter and enjoys reading, running and skiing. Before his assignment to the Eurocorps he was Chief of the Operations Division of the Army General Staff.
In the course of his career, Major General Puentes Zamora participated in courses mostly on Special Forces Operations and Electronic Warfare which took him to Colombia and the United States.


He started his career at the conscript training centre N° 8 and became Lieutenant in 1972. The following two years he spent at the Engineer Training Unit of the Army Mountain School as Engineer Platoon Leader. He changed in 1975 as Engineer Platoon Leader to the Paratroop Brigade, where in 1976 he took command of the company.
Captain Puentes Zamora was assigned as Engineer Company leader to the Mixed Engineer Regiment on the Canary Islands. In 1977 he went to the Paratroop Training Battalion and spent the next eight years at the Army Mountain & Special Forces School as Special Forces Course Instructor.
Major in 1986, he goes to the Army Staff College, the EEM. In 1988 he is assigned to the Signal Command Headquarters Staff and in 1991 takes an assignment as Tactics teacher at the Army Staff High School, during which he is promoted Lieutenant Colonel two years later.


In 1994 Lieutenant Colonel Puentes Zamora is assigned to the HQ Eurocorps, returning to Spain in 1997 as Chief CIS Section to the Army General Staff.
During the assignment he is promoted Colonel and in 1999 is assigned as commander of the 32nd Strategic Electronic Warfare Regiment. In 2002 he becomes Chief of Staff of the Technical Support Division.


In 2003 Brigadier General Puentes Zamora becomes Chief of the Operations Division of the Army General Staff.
Major General Puentes Zamora is proud holder of the Great Cross, Cross, Commendation and Badge of the Royal and Military Order of San Hermenegildo. He also holds two Crosses of Military Merit with white ribbon (1st Class, extraordinary & 2nd Class), the Single Honorific Mention, the United Nations-UNPROFOR Medal and the Chilean Medal of Bernardo O'Higgins.
