Eurocorps exercises in Spain

Strasbourg: From the 5th till the 15th of November, 3,000 soldiers from 10 different nations will meet in Andalusia. (Southern Spain) and take part in COBRA 2001, Eurocorps’ annual large scale exercise. Aims of the exercise are the training and evaluation of new concepts for deployment, organisation and operations in the framework of HQ Eurocorps’ future role as a Rapid Reaction Corps available for both of the European Union and the Atlantic Alliance.

After the projection of all participating HQs over large distances, their set-up in the area of operations and their mutual linkage with modern communication and information systems, this "Command Post Exercise" will focus on the conduct of a multinational peace support operation at Army Corps level.

Major units from all Eurocorps member nations (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain), will be joined by EUROFOR and the Multinational Division (Centre), thus enlarging the international participation to Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

Deployment, that has started early October, comprises road, rail, air and sea-transport. By the 5th of November, all participating major units will have established their respective headquarters in the vicinity of the larger Andalusian cities. The Headquarters Eurocorpswill be located close to CADIZ.
