G1 Branch
The chief of G1 is the principal adviser to the Commanding General Eurocorps (COMEC) concerning every aspect related to the Headquarters organisation, the personnel situation, discipline, military protocol, ceremonial issues, leisure acti-vities moral and welfare (MWA), as well as family support. Within its aera of responsibility and on behalf of the Commanding General, G1 gives instructions and guidelines to all subordinated or assigned units of HQ Eurocorps. Four multinational sections and an administrative one contribute to the successful work of this branch:
The administrative section provides support to the branch. This includes the entire range of administrative tasks, contacts between G1 and the other branches, the management of all ADP issues and the coordination of common activities within the branch itself.
The Plans and Organisation (Plans/Org) section participates in the operational planning and contributes to studies on structures and organisation. This section is in charge of the studies in connection with personnel matters and the establishment of HQ Eurocorps in time of peace, crisis or emergency.
It also takes part in exercise preparation and organisation.
The Multinational Personnel Management (MNPersMGT) section is responsible for the personnel management policy and for multinational and national aspects of manning such as rotation plans with regard to the operational deployments, reinforcement issues and the employment of civilian personnel. It is accountable for morale and welfare (MWA), cohesion and integration policy. In crisis or wartime, it provides guidelines for any action concerning prisoners of war, personnel indicted for war crimes and personnel missing or killed in action.
The Joint Visitors Bureau (JVB) prepares and organises military and civilian (VIP) visits to HQ EUROCORPS. It organises visits by high-level military organisations and arranges major conferences chaired by EC general officers. The JVB also encompasses ceremonial and protocol issues. G1-JVB keeps a schedule of visits, conferences and ceremonies, working with internal and external agencies to guarantee the smooth execution of all activities.
The Family Support Centre (FSC) organises family support within the home base. Besides this, FSC takes care of the moral support and welfare of the families. During deployment of the HQ, it ensures liaison between home base and the Eurocorps command posts. In peacetime, this section is responsible for the general support of all official visitors and conference attendees. As a result, JVB and FSC often work closely together and are concentrated under one Section Chief.
