Major General Hubert DE VOS

Hubert De Vos was born on 25 July 1955 in Brasschaat, Belgium. He graduated as a Master “Social and Military Science” from the 114 Promotion of the Belgian Royal Military Academy in 1978 and subsequently completed his military training at the Belgian Armor school.

He has held a number of operational assignments and commands. He served with the 2 Gidsen (tank) Regiment as platoon commander (1979-81); squadron commander of the Staff Sq (81-83) and C Sq from 1983 till 1986. He was then assigned instructor at the Armor School for two years followed by a study period at the Royal Higher Defence Institute till 1989. From 1989 to 1993 he returned to the 2 Regt Gidsen to perform the duties of operations officer and EXO. During this period he served 6 months as a liaison officer at BELBAT 1(ex-Yugoslavia).

In 1996, he was placed in command of the 1 Jagers te Paard (1JP), a reconnaissance battalion.

He has held a variety of teaching responsibilities, starting with a posting at the Armor School (86-88) and then at the Royal Higher Defence Institute where from 1999 to 2000 he was military professor tactics and from 2000 to 2002 military professor joint operations.

He was promoted to colonel on December 26, 2001.

In July 2002 he became commander of the 1 Mechanized Brigade (Leopoldsburg).

He attended several courses and training schools as the General Staff Course of the Royal Higher Defence Institute in Brussels, Belgium (1993); the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr in Hamburg (1994-1996); the Nato Defence College (NDC) Senior Staff Course in Rome, Italy (2004).

Colonel Hubert De Vos took up the position as branch chief National and International Political and Military Relations from 2005 to 2006.

He was promoted Brigadier General on August 2006 and appointed National Contingent Commander (NCC) of the BELUFIL contingent in LEBANON.

With effect from 1 August 2007 he is the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations (DCOS Ops) at HQ EUROCORPS in Strasbourg (FRA).

He was promoted Major General on 26 March 2008.

He has been awarded several national and international decorations.

He is married with Martine D’Haeyer and the couple is blessed with 3 daughters.

Major General De Vos has a great interest in political and military history.
