Eurocorps' Media Day in Bitche

On 14 February 2006, Eurocorps will organize a special program for the media in Bitche (FR-57234). It will take place in the framework of the exercise BRILLIANT LEDGER 06 wich is a major step in the Eurocorps preparation for the NATO Response Force (NRF).

 

This NRF-exercise consists of two parts: from 11 to 14 February troops will train in the field to enhance their operational readiness and from 16 to 28 February a Command Posts exercise will aim at improving the interoperability between multinational headquarters at different levels of command.

 

On 14 February more than 3000 military from 17 nations will be exercising in Bitche.

 

Tentative media-program

 

0800: Departure of a shuttle bus from Strasbourg railway station (only for media arriving in Strasbourg).

1000: Welcome at Bitche training area.

1015: Presentation of exercise.

1030: - River crossing (amphibious and floating)

- Protection of a refugees camp

- Check-point activities

- Close Air Support Mission by two F-16

1230: Standing lunch

1330: - Reaction to an attack of an ethnic minority (separation of warring factions)

- Protection of population in urban areas

1500: Press point with Eurocorps' commanding general

1530: Departure of a shuttle bus to Strasbourg railway station

 

The movements between the differents sites will partially occur with tactical vehicles and an helicopter is planned to allow a pool of photo/videographers to take footage from the air.

Interested media can attend a NATO medal ceremony at 16h00 that will gather the 3000 participants to close the first part of BRILLIANT LEDGER 06.
