A new legal capacity for Eurocorps

On 27th March 2008, Lieutenant General Pedro PITARCH who took over the command of the Eurocorps on 21st September 2007 signed a document to open a bank account chargeable to Eurocorps.

During a ceremony at the bank headquarters in Wacken, the CIC (Credit Industriel et Commercial) regional director, Mr HAGENBACH, officially handed over to General PITARCH, the first cheque book made out to the name of Eurocorps.

This action is a strong symbol of the legal capacity provided by the treaty of Strasbourg once ratified.

Eurocorps will have the necessary financial autonomy to quickly take steps in a multinational framework such as NATO headquarters can.

Eurocorps is prepared as soon as the treaty is ratified to assert all its new prerogatives.

Eurocorps will thus have the legal capacity (article V of the treaty) to ‘contract, purchase, sell and take legal actions’.
