General PITARCH receives Japanese press delegation

Strasbourg – Lieutenant General Pitarch, Eurocorps Commander, has held today a meeting with a Japanese press delegation interested for this European Unit.

LTG Pitarch and his Chief of Staff, General Nachtsheim, have received the delegation, composed by journalists from Yomiuri Shimbun, Kiodo News, The Manichi Newspapers, Jiji Press and The Hokaido Shimbun Press in Headquarters Eurocorps.

LTG Pitarch mentioned “the mission of press as natural interface between public opinion and institutions”. During the visit, including an exciting dialog, LTG Pitarch underlined the main Eurocorps characteristics, “a multinational corps of high readiness, ready and trained for operating in every part of the word”.

Japanese journalists shown high interest in political decision making process, for Eurocorps based in agreement of his five framework nations, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and Luxemburg.

Other questions were about Eurocorps mission in Afghanistan in 2004 and recent mission as NATO Response Force, which Stand By Period finished in January 2007. Coordination for employment of Eurocorps inside NATO and EU was also a subject of great interest for Japanese press.

Lieutenant General Pitarch took the command of Eurocorps last September the 21st in Strasbourg. His previous assignment was the Spanish Army Land Forces, Seville.
