Eurocorps celebrates the Spanish and German National Days

October 10th 2007, at the Aubert de Vincelles barracks in Strasbourg (France), a ceremony to celebrate the Spanish and German National Days has been organized.

Because the national days of these two Eurocorps’ framework nations are close one to another, the Eurocorps community celebrates them together.

Spanish National Day or “Dia de la Hispanidad” is celebrated on October the 12th and commemorates the discovery of the “new world”, America, by Christoffer Columbus.

German National Day or “Tag der deutschen Einheit” is celebrated on October the 3rd and commemorates the re-unification of Germany in 1990.

Eurcorps Commander, the Spanish Lieutenant General Pedro Pitarch, chaired the ceremony.

After the arrival of the flags of its five framework nations, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain, and the inspection of the troops by the Commander, the Spanish and German Senior National Representatives, Generals Georg Nachtsheim and Alfredo Ramirez, made their speeches and took the opportunity of this ceremony to award some honour-medals to soldiers from their respective nations.

The ceremony ended with a parade and finally a cocktail took place in the barraks.

The military parade being held on a Wednesday afternoon and the nice autumn weather attracted a lot of family members as spectators.
