Brigadier General Spindler is the Eurocorps’ new Deputy Chief of Staff – Operations and will take over from Brigadier General Fabian on 23. September 2005. Brigadier General Spindler can draw on long years of experience with the Eurocorps from a former assignment as section-chief of Eurocorps’ G3 Ops and as Commander of the French-German Brigade. Born on 4th May 1954 in Detmold, Brigadier General Spindler, who is fluent in French and English, is married and has four children

Brigadier General Spindler comes from the mechanized Infantry and studied economics at the Bundeswehr University of Munich. He is holder of the Bundeswehr Golden Cross of Honour (GE) and officer of the national order of merit (FR). He also detains a Meritorious Service Medal (US).

He joined the army on 1st July 1973 at 323rd mechanized infantry battalion in Schwanewede and followed a formation as Infantry Officer in Munster and Altenstadt till 1974. Afterwards, from 1974 to 1978 he studied economics at the Bundeswehr University of Munich.

He was then transferred to the 11th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Wesendorf, where he served first for two years as platoon commander and then for a year as intelligence officer. From 1980 to 1985 he was company commander at the 12th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Osterode.

He followed the General-staff Course at the German War College in Hamburg from 1985 to 1986 and the General-staff Course at the French War College in Paris from 1986 to 1988. Afterwards he served in G4 and G3 at the 29th armoured brigade in Sigmaringen for a year and from 1989 to 1991 as staff officer in the politico-military section of the AFS at the Ministry of Defence in Bonn.

From 1991 to 1993 he was at G3 ops of the military district command VIII in Neubrandenburg and then till 1995 Commander of the 72nd/173rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Hamburg-Harburg.

He became section-chief G3 ops at the Eurocorps for two years and then sub-division-chief G3 ops at the German Army Forces Command in Koblenz between 1997 and 1998. He was the assistant director of the policy and advisory staff to the minister of defence in Berlin and then studied at the centre for higher military studies from 2002 to 2003.

From the 1st September 2003 on, he commanded the French-German Brigade in Müllheim and commanded the Unit on ISAF VI in Afghanistan, when it was deployed with the HQ Eurocorps.
