Today was the Day of Europe. It was celebrated during a ceremony that took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. A multinational Eurocorps detachment were the actors of the flag hoisting while a military band of the French 12 Regiment d'Artillerie from Haguenau played the European anthem.

During the investiture Major General SOMMAIRE, deputy commanding general Eurocorps, made Major General Fransisco PUENTES (Spain) and Brigadier General Walter SPINDLER (Germany) knights of the honour legion. The German Colonel SCHÖBINGER, the Belgian Colonel MICHEL and the Luxemburg Lieutenant Colonel ASSEL were made knights of the Merit Order.
The Eurocorps was created in 1992 as the concrete implementation of a political will that has developed since the 1950's.
The Eurocorps comprises military contributions from its five framework nations: Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain. The Headquarters, in which soldiers from the member states and also from Austria, Greece, Poland and Turkey participate, is located in Strasbourg, France.
